What You Need Before Starting Online Piano Lessons
Before beginning lessons at Encore Piano Academy, there are a few important requirements that help ensure students can benefit fully from their piano education. These prerequisites relate to age, focus, practice habits, and having the appropriate instrument setup at home.
Student Requirements
- Age: Students must be at least 6 years old at the time of admission. Children should be at least 6 years old at the time of admission. At this age, most students are able to follow instructions, read basic information, and maintain focus during a structured lesson.

Instrument Requirements
While an 88-key piano is ideal for optimal results, we understand that purchasing a piano is a significant investment. We offer the following provisions. Please consult with the Academy before finalising any instrument purchase.
- Grades 1-3: A 61-key touch-sensitive keyboard is acceptable.
- Grades 4-8: An 88-key weighted digital piano is required.
- Beyond Grade 8: An acoustic piano is strongly recommended for these advanced grades.
If you are unsure about which instrument to purchase, we recommend consulting with the academy before making a decision.
Essential Accessories
To ensure proper posture and playing technique, students should also have the following:
- Adjustable Keyboard Stand: For keyboards and portable digital piano models to position the instrument at the correct height.
- Adjustable Piano Bench: To ensure proper posture and comfort for the student.
- Sustain Pedal: An essential accessory for all keyboards necessary for developing expressive piano playing.

For effective online piano lessons, students will need:

- High-Speed Internet: A stable and reliable connection is crucial.
- Google Account: For accessing class materials and communication.
Do Students Need Prior Piano Experience?
No prior piano experience is required to begin online piano lessons at Encore Piano Academy. Many students start as complete beginners and gradually develop their musical skills through our structured curriculum.
Lessons at the beginner level focus on building strong foundations in note reading, rhythm, hand coordination, and basic piano technique. As students gain confidence and consistency in their practice habits, they gradually progress to more advanced repertoire and technical studies.
For students who already have some experience, the appropriate starting level is determined during the initial consultation so that lessons align with their current abilities.
Students who meet these prerequisites can begin progressing through our structured Levels & Grades learning pathway.
